by March 12, 2011[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]The concert, which is under the auspices of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and sponsored by UNICEF and The Carter Center will have the agenda to free Ghana from guinea worm in 2011, particularly the final phases of eradication. Ghana has a few more months to be certified 100% guinea worm free. The objective is to use the tour to draw all stakeholders in one more massive effort to ensure Ghana is completely free from guinea worm. In order to achieve that end, everyone should be vigilant and report any suspected case of guinea worm to their nearest health clinic. The featured artists will embark on a trip to the Northern Region to intensely advocate on this issue, as well as the need for everyone in the community to maintain their water sources, and drink filtered and clean water.
Since 2001, Africa LIVE! has organized the hugely successful “Rocky Dawuni’s Independence Splash,” which is the flagship event celebrating Ghana’s Independence Day. The 2007 50th Anniversary event was celebrated at La Pleasure Beach with over 25,000 attendees. UNICEF and the Carter center sponsored the event and the concert platform was used in a massive water and sanitation campaign. Rocky Dawuni, Samini, and Sheriff Ghale visited Savelugu and Bonbon Nayilli prior to the event, where virtually everyone in each village came to meet them to interact on the Clean Water and Guinea Worm issues.
Rocky Dawuni, has been riding on the wave of his critically acclaimed new album “Hymns for the Rebel Soul” which was recently nominated for a prestigious NAACP Image Award in the United States for “Outstanding World Music Album” alongside luminaries Herbie Hancock, Bobby McFerrin, Angelique Kidjo and Michael Franti. Hymns was also nominated by the International Reggae & World Music Awards (to be held in Trinidad May 28, 2011) for “Best Music Album” and Rocky himself for “Best African Artist.” Rocky’s song “African Reggae Fever” from the album was just nominated for “Best Reggae Song” by the Ghana Music Awards. This spring and summer will see Rocky back touring in the United States and Europe including a very exciting scheduled appearance with the legendary Stevie Wonder at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA on July 24, 2011 as part of KCRW’s “Global Soul” event.
